40 Days of Play
Community Mural Project
In collaboration with Kalabash School of Music and the Arts, La Jolla, CA
I was asked to design a mural that would track the music practice challenges of over 100 students for 40 days.
Heavily inspired by the work of Agnes Martin, I punched some numbers, grabbed a ruler, and created a 17’ x 8’ grid made up of over 4,500 dots and squares.
Each day, teachers and students walked up to the wall, found their name, and placed an orange sticker on the days they practiced. Day by day, the wall filled with saturated dots, building upon what came to be a communal masterpiece.
